October 2019
In October, Grade 10 students will explore and define what constitutes healthy boundaries in their life. We look at how each student has an internal moral compass that is defined by who they are, what they have experienced and the multiple cultures they have transgressed throughout their lifetime. Students will reflect on their own boundaries and work on how they can best advocate for themselves, their friends and respect one another's boundaries in a lesson on consent within relationships both in and out of school.

Learn About Your Intelligences
Picture
There are a variety of ways that students can broadcast their talents or multiple intelligences. In the past, IQ was the standard measure of intelligence but a professor at Harvard University, Dr. Howard Gardner, found that it was far too limited. In our new modern world, students are required to understand and harness all their intelligences to access a greater bandwidth of their full potential. Students will take assessments in MaiaLearning and identify their multiple intelligences to better guide their decisions into future career choices:
  • Linguistic intelligence (“word smart”)
  • Logical-mathematical intelligence (“number/reasoning smart”)
  • Spatial intelligence (“picture smart”)
  • Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence (“body smart”)
  • Musical intelligence (“music smart”)
  • Interpersonal intelligence (“people smart”)
  • Intrapersonal intelligence (“self smart”)
  • Naturalist intelligence (“nature smart”)

PSAT: Wednesday, October 16, 2019
ALL students in Grade 10, regardless of their post-secondary (college/university) destinations, are required to sit the PSAT/NMSQT.

SFS uses the PSAT/NMSQT as our standardized test to measure student progress in the High School, similar to the MAP/CAT testing done in Middle School and British School. Students may elect in Grade 11 with parent permission, to Opt OUT, of the PSAT testing opportunity held annually for Grades 9-11 at SFS. Please check your email for more detailed information.

Please bring #2 pencils, a good eraser, an approved calculator and a small snack.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is essential for success in school. It is SFS policy to attend 90% of classes per semester in order to receive working levels/completion of a course.

When absent, it is the student's responsibility to make-up any missed work. When students are away from school, we ask parents to follow this two step procedure:
  • Step One: Please call the HS office at 330-3301 and notify the Mrs. Koh, our HS Administrative Assistant, that your son/daughter will not be in school.
  • Step Two: Send a note in with your student or via e-mail to Mrs. Koh (hs-office@seoulforeign.org) the first day they return back to school after being absent. The student is to come to the HS Office to get an admit pass. If the student does not have a note, they will be admitted to class with an unexcused absence until a note is received or two days pass.
